MACS AT THE TIMARU HERALD
Ray gave AMUG members an extended visit through Timaru Herald building, and explained the use that is made of computers in both newspaper production and in commercial printing. He gave a very interesting outline of the types of graphic design that the Herald undertakes, and showed us the processes through which a clientÕs work goes prior to printing. G4 Macintoshes, using Photoshop, Quark Express and other graphic software, produce a variety of graphic work for posters, booklets, brochures, advertising, prospectuses, summaries, etc.
For those members who heard RayÕs talk at the April AMUG, it was particularly interesting to see the practical application of production aspects which he had described at that time. [For those who missed that talk, or Friday's tour, take a look at the April Meeting
The tour included time for membersÕ questions, and concluded with supper in the cafeteria.
We are very grateful to Ray for arranging the tour, and for giving up his time to present an informative and enjoyable session for us. We are also indebted to Herald Communications for the opportunity to visit their premises, and for the use of their facilities for our meeting and for supper. Thank you Ray for a great visit!
