GERALDINE WORKSHOP DAY Saturday 24 May
These comments, made during and after last Saturday's Workshop Day at Geraldine, were positive feedback of a very successful day. The combined meeting of AUGC visitors from Christchurch and local AMUG members and guests enabled both groups to get to know other Mac users, and also to benefit from each other's computing experience. A dozen Christchurch visitors and twice as many locals used the opportunity to meet together for talk and use of Macs. |

Members and guests gathered at the Geraldine Primary School Library at 10am. Following morning tea, all were welcomed by Barry Robinson (AMUG President) and Paul Schroeder (AUGC Vice-President), after which groups of common interest were formed to give hands-on experience at a number of work-stations. A variety of topics was offered, including using Photoshop, cross-platform communication (talking to the 'other kind'), handling graphics, internet issues, e-mail software, MacOS X, and also aspects of MacBasics. The sessions catered for needs at both advanced and individual levels, with members assisting each other by sharing their expertise. Breaks for a shared pot-luck lunch and afternoon tea seemed to creep up on us... several were heard to exclaim, "Is it that time already?" Hours pass quickly when you're working hard, and having fun at the same time! Nobody went hungry, either! The meeting enabled several local Mac users who did not know about AMUG to make contact with the club, get to know other users, and become involved in our activities. ![]()
Considerable interest was shown in examples of work displayed by Geraldine Mac users Trudy Mulligan (graphic design) and Guy Mannering (digitally-manipulated photos). Many expressions of admiration were heard about their designs and images which were on show during the day. Although not all of the proposed topics were covered, the four o'clock finishing time came around rapidly. All agreed that the day's arrangements, coverage and content were successful, both computer-related and socially. Thanks go to the AUGC Committee who initially proposed the combined meeting, to the Geraldine Primary School Board of Trustees who kindly allowed the use of the school library and a dozen of its Macs, and to the AMUG Committee who made the arrangements for the day. All agreed that we need to have a day like this again!
