Members

Our AMUG e-mail contact list includes many who are no longer (or have never been) financial members of the group. As no cost is incurred in e-mail distribution, it was decided that if they wished, contact with them would be maintained by to continuing to send the meeting minutes to them.

For Sale

Sheryl, as usual, has a variety of used hardware available, ranging from iMacs and iBooks to older machines (eg a 6100 Performa, suitable for basic computing and/or e-mailing). She also has various peripherals available: printers, modems, scanners, etc.

Phone 03 689 4824.

Questions And Answers

Colin had a query about e-mailing between cellphones and computers: he was able to send from cellphone to computer, but wanted to know how to send vice versa. ÊIt was suggested that he visit Telecom's website (or phone their helpline), as they have an application named Deduce which enable this.

Sheryl asked if other members had experienced problems with their computers or keyboards in cold conditions. MagnumMac had suggested that a brief blast from a hairdryer would help when the temperature dropped.

Sessions

MacBASICS:

Several members contributed to a general discussion covering a variety of basic aspects, including printer cleaning, using AppleWorks templates, customising the AppleWorks button bar, changing font sizes and using Styles in AppleWorks. Many tips concerning these features are easily forgotten, and it is useful to be reminded of them.

DIGITAL CAMERAS

Tony gave a brief outline of his recent use of a new Olympus digital camera when visiting the Chatham Islands, and presented a slide show of images taken on his trip:

The slide show was presented using by dropping a folder of images onto the MacOS X System Preferences Screen Effects. The cross-fade, zoom in/out ("Ken Burns") effects make an attractive show, although with limited controls for timing.

As usual at our Annual meeting, members shared an enjoyable and tasty supper. Thanks to all for their contributions.
